Why is the SR-71 not in service?
The official statement was due to it’s operating expense. The SR-71 required unique fuel, JP-7. JP-7 was expensive, and the SR-71 used lots of it during take off. It didn’t become fuel efficient until it reached it’s high altitude cruising speeds of 70k+ ft at Mach 3+.
