Do I need a first aid certificate to renew my SIA Licence?

Before renewing your SIA licence, you must either prove you have a minimum of 12 months before expiry on any current first aid certificate or you must attend an Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) qualification or equivalent, before attending any top-up training.

Will I pass a CRB check?

There’s no such thing as passing or failing a DBS Check. A DBS certificate shows any information held on an individual’s criminal record. If you do not have a criminal record your Certificate will come back with no information on it.

Do I need an SIA Licence for in house security?

You need an SIA licence to work in contracted security, but not if you work as in-house security. The exception to this is door supervision. Door supervisors and vehicle immobilisers need an SIA licence whether they are in-house or contract.

What do I need to apply for a SIA licence?

The checks need to cover the five years prior to your application. SIA will need the originals of any documentation sent to us. Where these are not in English, they must be translated into English by an accepted translation body. You may submit your application before you provide us with your overseas criminal record check.

What kind of documents do I need to send to Sia?

All documents should be removed from holders, wallets, etc before they are sent to SIA. Two identity documents from group A. At least one document must show your current address and at least one document must show your date of birth.

When do you need to send Sia application to post office?

Your Next Steps Notification from SIA will tell you if you need to send any documents directly to them. You need to send everything to the SIA within 21 days of visiting the Post Office or your application may be withdrawn. Until the SIA receive your documents they will not be able to progress your application further.

Do you have to have a copy of your passport for Sia?

If any of your documents are not in English you must provide us with both the original and an English translation from an approved translator. * There is one exception to this rule: SIA will accept a notarised copy of a passport from a suitably accredited notary in the country in which you reside.
